Research Areas:
1) Extremophile Ecology: microbial diversity studies of terrestrial geothermal environments and submarine habitats.
2) Biodiscovery: isolation and identification of novel extremophiles, for a range of biotechnolgy applications, including biofuels, mineral bioprocessing and bioremediation.
3) Genomics: sequencing investigations of selected novel extremophiles.
4) Biofuels: isolating, characterizing and testing cellulolytic thermophiles for the production of bioethanol.
5) Biogeochemistry: bacterial involvement in geological processes.
Matthew Stott has had a long time interest in the biology and ecology of microorganisms that flourish in non-anthropogenic conditions and their application to biotechnologies.
